Winter: And today’s slang word is ‘flop’ F-L-O-P flop
Sun Chen: 这个词儿的本来意思就是扑通的一下倒下。
Winter: Yes, but here it’s a noun, used to talk about something
which wasn’t very successful.
Sun Chen: 这么说这个词当名词使的时候,说的是什么事儿不太成功。那都用这个词儿说哪些事儿不成功呢?
Winter: It’s often used to talk about entertainment – films, plays,
pop songs and so on which weren’t very successful.
Sun Chen: 要想知道怎么来用这个俚语flop,我们来看看下边这段。
Despite huge investment, the latest film from the production company
was a complete flop in terms of box-office sales, and critical
reviews.
Sun Chen: 这个flop,用在这儿,是说一个虽然投资很大,但是却并不成功的一部电影。

Winter: No, it can be used to talk about other things too, for
example politics.

Winter: It has been a total flop.
